CODE ENFORCEMENT BUREAU
The Code Enforcement Bureau’s main goal is to provide fire safety inspections that
will ultimately provide a fire safe environment for various facilities throughout
the State of Ohio. The Bureau conducts fire safety inspections for buildings and
structures and other places, the condition of which may be dangerous from a fire
safety standpoint to life and property to those places or adjacent buildings or
structures. The Code Enforcement Bureau conducts fire safety inspections of a variety
of facilities, including, but not limited to:
- Aboveground Flammable and Combustible Liquid Storage Tanks
- Fire Standard Complaint Cigarettes
- Fireworks Facilities
- Hotels and Motels
- Nursing Homes
- Psychiatric and Maternity Wards
- Schools
The Code Enforcement Bureau also issues permits for the installation, removal, temporary
out of service and abandonment of aboveground and underground flammable and combustible
liquid storage tanks and piping if the permit is not issued by the local fire authority
having jurisdiction. Underground storage tanks not regulated by the Bureau of Underground
Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR) or the local fire authority having jurisdiction
are handled by the Code Enforcement Bureau. The Code Enforcement Bureau features
